Welcome to
Zhiping You's Home Page.
I am trained as a Mathematician, now works as a mathematical
statistician in a pharmaceutical company. Outside of my work, I have
many hobbies. here is a list of important ones.
- Mathematical Puzzles . I run a mathematical puzzle forum
灵机一动. You will find
many interesting mathemtical puzzles and puzzle loving friends
there.
- Badminton I love badminton. Although I started late, I
have consistantly played 3 times a week for the past 20 years. I have
won some trophies in Senior tounaments. Currently, I am ranked
as No. 3 in the US for 45+ age category. Check out the Senior
ranking.
- Writing I love to write. I have written many essays and
a few novels. A collection of some of my writings can be found here. My best so far is 墨绿. It has
won the second prize for the annual XYS literature award in 2004.
- WeiQi I started to play WeiQi when I was 7. Due to lack
of competition and teacher, I stopped after two years. I picked
it up after I got to the US since I had a very good go player
neighbor. Now, I am about 5 dan in the US go ranking system. I am
probably around 3 dan in Chinese amature scale.
- Running I have run two marathons, and done many
triathlons. Haven't won anything, but still love to run. Running
makes me fit, clears my mind.
- PingPong I started to play PingPong when I was in
elementary school, and continued playing through out my
life so far. Now, I don't play as frequently as I used to be, but I
still like it very much. Once every year, I still go to the
Chinese PingPong tournament.
- Programming I like to program games in my spare time. My
best program so far is the GoRecord . A program that can
record and review WeiQi games, with PostScript graphics output
and Chinese editing feature. It was one of the pioneer programs
in the field. It was commercially available back in 1993.
However, since it only works in the DOS world, it has no life in
the current windows world. I have also programmed many other
games, such as Othello, Connect5, Hex, Quarto etc.. My
highest achievement in programing is that I have won Mathworks
internal MATLAB program contest three years in a row. These
internal contests would then be run publiclly to the whole MATLAB
community in the world. My scores were usually better than the
public best scores.
